So it has been a very long time since I have posted anything of merit on this weblog. I blame school and my lack of anything decent to talk about. I could detail everything I do in my life for you, but I have Twitter for that. Even then, I barely make posts on Twitter either. They usually consist of my distaste for mornings (when I usually check Twitter) and my distaste for School and Work. Anyway, the point of the matter being that I haven't had a lot to talk about lately, but now I've got to get somethings off of my chest.
Firstly, let me talk about this wonderful movie called
Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist. I saw a preview for this movie about a month of so ago, I'm not really sure, I've been to the theater way too much this year to be precise about it. I saw the trailer and I was interested. Another movie with a bunch of Indie rock in it? I am totally there. I was pretty excited when I went to see it on Sunday. This movie wasn't very fantastic like
Juno was, but it is still a very good teen love story. You don't find very many teen love movies where the love isn't so much about the sex but more about the actual relationship the character's have with one another.
Which is my biggest peeve with society today. There is so much emphasis on the sensual side of relationships. People are all about having sex or making out, they care so much about all this that when it loses all the fun it use to have, there is nothing for their relationship to fall back. When people do not take the time to get to really know the person they are choosing to date or be committed to, what is going to keep the relationship going when the sex is gone? Are you even going to like the person you are with? This was what was so great about
Nick and Nora. There was one line in the movie I simply loved, "The Beatles got it right, everyone else tries to make love about kissing or sex, but only the Beatles knew what love was really about, 'I want to hold your hand,'" That is what love is about, its wanting to walk beside someone for the rest of your life and trust them enough and know them enough to hold their hand the entire time. Love is love.
My next beef is with politics. It is coming to the end of America's Presidential Election and I couldn't be happier about it. I am tired of the pundits, I am tired of the smears, and I am tired of people being hateful to each other simply because they disagree on an issue or over a candidate. I tired of all, if you will pardon my french for a moment, the shit that comes with the political season. I am simply tired of all the same garbage being spoon fed to people who don't know any better.
I find during this time of year I find very few people around me, at least in Kentucky, who share my same political sentiments. I find myself very alone. I was called earlier this week, by one of my friends, a person who was so enamored with a certain candidate's charisma that I fail to see how dangerous he is. I took offense to that. This person assumed that I was an idiot because I was not on the same side of the Political fence as they were. They assumed that I had not thought about my decision like a responsible voter should, they assumed I was only voting for a person because I liked them better than the other, they had assumed so many things about me. I hate that. People should never assume anything. I try my very best not to do so, doesn't always pan out.
I chose my candidate for very good reasons. One, I believe he is a capable leader; two, I believe he is going to be a positive influence on Government; and three, because he and I share very similar views. For someone to think I was not responsible about my voting, to think that I was just following a trend because everyone else was, to think that I hadn't thought about what I was doing offended me to the point where I was sick. Sick of everything having to do with politics.
I hate what politics does to people. It turns very nice friends into bitter enemies. I also hate how this election has turned into just about every other election before it. It has gotten to the point where the candidate's don't care so much about the issues anymore as they do about getting elected. The have fallen back into the old election tradition of outlining their strengths by targeting their opponents weakness. The election has come down to this" "Vote for me because the other guy is a bastard,".
How about this candidates? Can you tell why you would be a good leader without pointing out how terrible your opponent is? Can prove to me that your capable of running this country without have to say that if your opponent was elected how disastrous everything would be? Can you be honest with me and the country? Are you really running because you care about the people you say you care about, or are running for the simple fact that you want to win?
Politicians are public servants. They need to remember that.

I saw the preview for Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist and it looked kind of boring to me, but I love the part when he's like "it's not a cab." After your opinion of it, I may just have to see it. I liked Juno too, and normally I'm not really into those kind of movies. I know exactly what you mean about society putting all the emphasis on sex in relationships. This summer Emilie and I started watching that show Confessions of a American Teenager and it seemed okay at first but after watching it a couple times, the whole show was basically about sex, "to do or not to do" and such. The things is if that is how teenagers (and young people in general) are portrayed in our generation, they're really missing a lot. I mean think of all the things we dealt with in little Madisonville in high school, fights, race issues, philosophical conversations, crazy teachers, economic status, issues with parents... I mean there is just so much that could be included in a show like that. I mean, Emilie and I came to the conclusion that we had better story lines and serious issues when playing with our Barbie dolls. It's really degrading to our generation, and this is just a small example.
About the politics... I will be glad when the election is over too. I see/hear so many inhumane comments on both candidates (but I think I'll write my own post soon about it.) It would really be honorable to campaign with what you will do, not what you have done or who you are superficially because I really don't think that matters. Also, attacking the opponent is very immature, and I think is one of the reasons that the American people do not respect one or the other or both. I am sorry to say, but I must put a lot of blame on the politician's followers and not the politicians themselves. Some of those people (as I think you've seen) are just downright scary.
By the way, thank you for wishing me luck with the study abroad scholarship. :)
